FAQs re the rent payment during the COVID-19 outbreak
The Greek government has announced specific measures with respect to the payment of rent for employees and undertakings, which have been affected by the coronavirus – COVID 19 pandemic, as summarized in the below FAQs.
What is the payable rent for an undertaking with a professional lease, which has suspended its business following a government mandate?
In accordance with article 2 par. 1 of the Act of Legislative Content (“ALC”) of 20.3.2020 (Government Gazette Issue A’ 68 – 20.3.2020) such undertaking shall be released from the obligation to pay 40% of the total rent for its business establishments. This partial non-payment of the rent applies for the months of March and April 2020.
What is the payable rent for the main residence lease of an employee of the above undertaking?
In accordance with article 2 par. 2 of the ALC of 20.3.2020 (Government Gazette Issue A’ 68 – 20.3.2020) the employees of an undertaking, which has suspended its business following a government mandate, shall be released from the obligation to pay 40% of the total rent for their main residence. This partial non-payment of the rent applies for the months of March and April 2020.
What is the payable rent for undertakings, which are severely affected by the negative consequences of the coronavirus – COVID 19 outbreak, even though their business was not mandatorily suspended?
In accordance with article 2 par. 3 sec. a of the ALC of 20.3.2020 (Government Gazette Issue A’ 68 – 20.3.2020) such undertakings shall be released from the obligation to pay 40% of the total rent for their professional establishments. This partial non-payment of the rent applies for the month of April 2020 only.
What is the payable rent for the main residence lease of an employee of the above undertaking?
In accordance with article 2 par. 3 sec. b of the ALC of 20.3.2020 (Government Gazette Issue A’ 68 – 20.3.2020) the employees of an undertaking, which has been severely affected by the negative consequences of the coronavirus – COVID 19 outbreak, even though its business was not mandatorily suspended, shall be released from the obligation to pay 40% of the total rent for their main residence. This partial non-payment of the rent applies for the month of April 2020 only.
